okay, I just also tested the upstream kernels 2.6.32.6 and 2.6.32.9, and
both show the same behavior. I'm pretty sure that this bug did not exist
in the stable kernel version of Karmic Koala, but I can't tell you which
version that was.

XSensors (btw) shows as source (I believe it is) in the tab of the left
"acpitz". Package version of "fancontrol" is 3.1.2-2, as is
"libsensors4" and "lm-sensors".

As already said, this bug is serious and should get some more
attention/priority: if a user did not activate the emergency shutdown
feature in bios, it may fry components and cause hardware damage.
