Affecting me as well. The time applet freezes at boot time and launched applets are not displayed, which only happens when something hangs at boot time.
I removed 'quiet splash' from my /etc/default/grub file, at I can't determine what is hanging. I've removed the attached devices one by one, and all that changes is when it hangs. A 'normal' boot - when it happens - goes to the limited fsck quickly. Logging out seems to alleviate the problem as well on my system.
