Hello Jeremy, This issue is solved. For whatever reason, I opened a new thread here (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/71573) after discovering that sound was working in Kubuntu, but not in Ubuntu. Thank you for checking up on this problem; the problem has been solved.
