I have the same problem for a long time. Saw the problem first when login on gdm. After entering the password the word 'error!' displays. But able to login. It happends after a synaptic package manager upgrade. Installed packages: polkit, libpolkit2, libpolkit-grant2 and libpolkit- dbus2, all version 0.9.2ubuntu1. When using for entery a hard disk nothing happends. It froze.
