I have tested this workaround, and it does not work for x64 OS.

Having searched all the bugs listing the issues with the RTL8192E
driver, I discovered that no official bug has been setup for the Karmic
AMD64 OS. This is the closest thread I've found. I have found
workarounds, repairs, and ndiswrapper options for the 32-bit OS, but due
to a failure on behalf of some bug-reporters to read the descriptions
thoroughly, a lot of unproductive banter is all that exists for x64
beyond this page.

So, I hope this is the official bug-posting. What needs to be done to
bump this up in importance? To the devs: this driver is unmistakably
missing from the repository and from Realtek's website. You can request
an emailed driver from Realtek, but when compiled, it only recognizes
the card. It will not make it active. Is there someone who can start
the process of figuring this issue out? Those of us with onboard 8192e
PCI wireless cards are frustrated by having to use a USB external
wireless or wired connection.

Please help?

*tested in both network-manager and wicd
*tested with realtek's purportedly "working" driver
(rtl8192e_linux_2_6_x64.tar.gz) emailed by Realtek support
*tested with ndiswrapper and the winxp x64 driver, vista x64 driver, and other
windows 32-bit drivers (just for kicks)
