Thanks James, it turned out that its in lp:~ubuntu-core-dev/packages-arch- specific/ubuntu and comes from debian. I did a local build of partimage and was able to create image with it. I have not tried restoring yet, but it appears that the 64 bit issues are fixed (but no reply from the upstream report yet).
