Phil, it's built with --enable-libmad --disable-mp3lib. Maybe you read it wrong?
MadJo, the "workaround" to use ffmpeg? Since mp3lib is disabled that should be the default now. Can you please remove the workaround and try it that's the case. Christoph, could you follow up with output from playing a known-good .mp3 from the console please.
