No, this happens with a fresh install attempt from a Live CD. Also, I tried it on a different computer of the same model and specs and it also hung the same way. As well, I tried installing Debian 5.04 and it installed without any problems and that is what I'm now running on that computer.
This bug likely isn't worth the time, the computer in question is old and likely not in widespread use, but maybe the fix is simple and maybe that info could prove useful in some other way.
