I can confirm this issue. I have a Lenovo Ideapad S12 (with ION) for
Ubuntu Lucid too. Pressing Fn+F3 will write...

$ tail -f -n 0 /var/log/messages

to /var/log/messages. Because of this it's also not possible to activate
wlan. When i press Fn+F5 (which brings up wlan), i get...
