this also fails (the same way) on an Ubuntu x86_64 (dapper) with the BCM4318 
chip:

(info: lapic and apic are disabled here, by the way)

In fact, it worked exactly _once_  but nevermore.

even with using "iwconfig eth1 ap any" to remove the "Invalid access
point", this stiil do not work.
