Same problem to me!!! When I try
sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-emailmerge I am told that OpenOffice.org is running but I tried all killall-orders I know and noone worked. When I try apt-get remove openoffice.org-emailmerge --purge I am told the same: how can I stop this f* process, how can I stop this update message??? I consider to reinstall my whole system (at the end of April I will do it anyway) -- OpenOffice.org is running right now. A running OpenOffice.org makes extension (de-)registration not possible and it causes problems with (de-)registering components.
