Hi David,
Thanks for the additional information. It is because the package is pinned in
synaptic, and apt and synaptic use different pinning files.
If you pin the file in /etc/apt/preferences the package won't be upgraded. I've
tried and cannot reproduce this issue.
The pinning difference between apt and synaptic is reported in bug 42178
and I'm going to mark this one as duplicate. Don't hesitate to provide
information on the main report.
