** Description changed: Binary package hint: phonon I'm not sure at all what is going on and if Phonon is really the culprit. For more background, please read this http://alexandervanloon.nl/english/?p=331 blog post and this http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=84887 forum topic. I've been investigating the power consumption of Ubuntu 9.10 and Kubuntu 9.10 on my notebook. My notebook is an Acer Travelmate TimeLine 8371. I noticed that Kubuntu consumes a lot more power than Ubuntu (for measurements with powertop see my blog post) because on Kubuntu my audio devices (hwCOD2 Intel G45 DEVCTG and hwCOD0 Realtek ALC269) are active 100.0% (or less) of the time. Powertop accompanies that warning with a suggestion to 'Turn HD audio powersave on' but pressing the button to implement the suggestion does nothing, powertop keeps coming back with the warning. I experience this problem in Kubuntu 9.10, the latest Kubuntu 10.04 and 10.04 with the 2.6.33-rc8 kernel. Because powertop doesn't warn me about the audio device when I use Ubuntu and because power consumption is lower on Ubuntu, I'm led to believe that this bug is specific to KDE. I believe there is some connection to the fact that KDE often warns me after starting up that it believes that an internal audio device was removed. See the forum topic for more detailed info on that. KDE asks if it should forget about the device, no matter what the answer is the warning and question keep coming back as soon as I turn off the PC and start KDE again. I realize this report might not be helpful enough, but I'm willing to provide whatever information it takes to get it fixed. KDE is draining my battery like there is no tomorrow, while battery life is very important to me.
