Sorry about the lack of information, I was under the impression Launchpad sent all relevant hardware information and system logs...
I doubt it has to do with the Graphics card since I can boot into recovery mode and start X manually, but when trying to boot normally not even the splash screen is displayed, just a black screen. Also, when booting into recovery mode after logging off X the screen goes black and no console is displayed. My install is Kubuntu Feisty Herd 5 running on: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Socket AM2 AMD64 5000+ X2 2GB of RAM EVGA Nvidia 8800GT Log files will follow... thank you for the help.
