in any case it should be tested if mknbi wouldnt be the better choice. we switched to mkelfimage as the default nbi creation tool in the chroots to support thincan thin clients a while ago, before that switch such problems never showed up, mkelfimage does seem to support only a subset of etherboot clients while it additionally supports clients using linuxbios/coreboot (i.e. the thincan). mknbi and mkelfimage cant coexist but if mknbi doesnt show these issues a reversion of this change should be considered, users with coreboot based clients (which imho is a minority) simply need to replace mknbi with mkelfimage then (this should be documented on the wiki indeed).
