That is the only way I can describe what I see. The screen is orange/brown and makes a brighter coloured ring that shrinks toward the center of the screen. It actually looks like melting plastic. Of course it is not, it is just LCD light.
I will install RC3 and see if the issue is gone. ----- Original Message ---- From: Steve Langasek <steve.langa...@canonical.com> To: jook_robe...@yahoo.ca Sent: Sun, February 28, 2010 1:14:05 PM Subject: [Bug 517318] Re: Boot Crashes in Lucid Linx Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve Ubuntu. Can you explain what you mean by "melting into the center of the screen"? I'm having a hard time visualizing this. Someone has assigned this bug to the plymouth package, but the issue you describe doesn't match any of the other plymouth bugs that we've seen so far. ** Package changed: plymouth (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- Boot Crashes in Lucid Linx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517318 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in “xserver-xorg-video-openchrome” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I was using Lucid, but after installing some updates on Feb 2 I could not boot into my computer. The screen actually looked like it was melting into the centre of the screen. The boot process makes it past grub but dies shortly after. I fooled around for a while to try and get it working, but had no luck. I reinstalled with an alpha 2 disc and was working again. I then did an apt-get dist-upgrade, rebooted and my screen was melting again. The only new software I installed on the second install was synaptic, Firefox and VLC. The problem may have something to do with my video. I believe I am using the open chrome driver. Here is a list of my hardware with lspci: 00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. If you want me to try another build, I could dual boot my laptop to test it out.
