I have the same problems Nautilus crash when trying to open the "Trash" folder, and it only crashes if there is items in the "Trash" folder, otherwise it opens fine. It also crashes when trying to connect to remote server.
After a crash all the desktop icons is gone. Attached is a valgrind.log Hope it helps in finding the problem.
