Looks like the "various fixes found on the net" nuked your tomcat6-common package as well. The "tomcat6 is not installed" message is emitted when /usr/share/tomcat6/bin/bootstrap.jar has been removed, and this is a file installed by tomcat6-common.
Tomcat6 is not packaged as a single package, it's composed of several packages, including tomcat6-common. Try: sudo apt-get purge tomcat6 tomcat6-common tomcat6-admin sudo apt-get install tomcat6 tomcat6-admin In all cases, not a bug in tomcat6. ** Changed in: tomcat6 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- Problems installing Tomcat https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
