Kyle,

The options you mention do not help. Still no boot. :-(

Here are the details. While adding the options to the boot sequence (F6 on
the CD start-up menu), I also removed quiet and splash. I could see a lot
of boot messages scrolling by, but I could also see the end tail of it when
the boot process aborted. Here is what I got:

1.  acpi=off

udevd event: run-program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal
     ----> part A

<3> usb 3-2: device not accepting address 2, error -71
|
usb 7-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
|----> part B
usb 7-2: configuration #1 chosen from choice
|

BusyBox v1.1.3  Buil-in shell (ash)
|
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
|-----> part C
Oinitramfs):
|

2.  acpi-off irqpoll

Same as above except no part B

3.  irqpoll

Same as 2.

I have a webcam (Logitech 5000 Pro) plugged into a USB port all the time. I
unplugged it and re-did the threee tests. For test #1 (acpi=off) the
message in part B changed. I did not copy the whole thing (but I could
easily do it if you need it) but it looked like this:

<3> irq 18: nobody cared (try booting with "irqpoll" option)
[      2.469080][<c0153f54>] __report_bad_irq+0x24/0x80
... 10 more lines similar to this one
===================
[       2.46870][<f8883ee0>] (usb_hcd_irq+0x0/0x80 [usbcore])  Disabling IRQ
#18

Results of test #2 and #3 were the same as above.

Hope this helps,

Andy

PS I know that you guys are busy, but could you explain to me why I can
boot 6.10 fine?  I know that 6.10 uses 2.6.17 and 7.04 - 2.6.20 but what is
the real reason? It is not a big deal but I would like to understand, if
possible, how something that worked in the older kernel stopped working in
the newer and better(?) one.

Thanks again,

Andy

Subject: [Bug 89380] Re: 7.04 herd 5 liveCD will not boot

Hi,

Can you try passing the "acpi=off" and/or "irqpoll" option to the kernel
and see if that helps with Feisty?

If it does, and you're able to boot, can you please attach a copy of the
"dmesg" from Feisty to this bug report?

Thanks!
  Kyle
