I think this will be working with the open source driver under kernel 2.6.33, which includes the new KMS page-flipping ioctl. Lucid has the 2.6.32 kernel, but backporting some of the DRM from the 2.6.33 kernel is currently being discussed on the ubuntu-x mailing list.
