Public bug reported: I've just packaged the 0.5rc2 .tar.gz of Deluge.
I know asking for a release candidate to be uploaded is asking a lot, but it will be final shortly, most likely in a matter of days, and 0.5 fixes many critical bugs that plagued the 0.4 branch. The reason I've been fairly persistent asking about getting 0.5 into feisty is that, as this is the first version of Ubuntu to ship with Deluge in it's repositories, I'd rather it not have the incredibly buggy 0.4 branch in it. The 0.5 branch is a complete rewrite, that addresses the following issues: * Opening a .torrent file in Deluge is now possible, either from a webbrowser such as Firefox or file browser such as Nautilus. * A memory leak that may affect the current stable version, 0.4.1, was found and fixed during 0.5 development * Torrents with multiple files will not download correctly in 0.4.1, and the result is that all the downloaded files are corrupted. * The interface has been tweaked a little to be more "Gnomish", by better conforming to the HIG. * Overall, 0.5 uses significantly less resources than 0.4, both CPU and RAM. Now, in the FreezeExceptionProcess wiki, it instructs to upload a few different files, but I can't exactly produce these for the following reasons: * It asks for a diff of the upstream tarballs. As 0.5 is a complete rewrite from 0.4, the two hardly share a line of code, and thus a diff is more or less irrelevant. * We don't have a Changelog in our source tarball, but if absolutely necessary I could write one. * I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to packaging. I've gone through the Debian New Maintainer's Guide, and used that in addition to the existing packaging for Deluge as a reference for building my own packages. The process didn't involve pbuilder, nor do I know how to use pbuilder, so I can't exactly provide a log of it. I have packaged the 0.5 RC and everything, .orig.tar.gz, .diff.gz, and .dsc files, can be found here: http://deluge- torrent.org/downloads/0.5_debs/ The package builds and installs just fine for me. As I've said, I really hope that this package could make it into feisty. I realize that it's late, but Deluge is a universe app, and as it's not completely vital to Ubuntu, it shouldn't cause any problems by uploading a package at this point.
