Thanks for the fix; in the last three or four weeks the freeze occurred only three times on my notebook. As it used to occur regularly once per day on the first boot after switching on, that is a great improvment.
I seem no longer to be able to use the notebook screen, only the secondary screen, But I am not sure that the two phenomena are connected, or started at the same time. My notebook is over two years old, so I just bought a new one and am going to install it now. By the way, "visual effects" are disabled on my computer, and have been as long as I can remember.
