Laurent Pinchart blacklisted the offending gain control in the upstream UVC kernel module; this should be in 2.6.34, as per https://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/linux-uvc- devel/2010-February/005552.html. The kernel patch works fine for me. Once that kernel makes it to Ubuntu, this bug can be closed I guess.
