It's all a matter of default values. There are two reasons why we'll keep bzr as the default VCS backend for etckeeper: - bzr is the default VCS for Ubuntu, used in Ubuntu DistributedDevelopment. Etckeeper, as an "Ubuntu main" citizen, must integrate with preferred distribution systems - Long-term development for etckeeper in Ubuntu plans on extending the etckeeper bzr plugin to support more complex operations involving the metadata (allow to revert files to previous state, including permissions), so bzr+etckeeper will end up given a more streamlined user experience than git+etckeeper
Switching to git is just two commands away (etckeeper uninit / change default / etckeeper init). When/if etckeeper lands as an option in the installer one day, we should definitely be able to preseed another VCS, so that etckeeper+git users don't end up with a degraded user experience. ** Changed in: etckeeper (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix -- Change default backend/VCS back to Git https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/523380 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
