Glad you got your problems sorted Jim, but here is probably not the ideal place to be fixing generic issues.
This is a list for discussion of a specific grub2 bug. I know you said you have experienced this particular bug but a lot of your other posting is irrelevant to this list. If you have other specific bugs then post details on the list for the relevant bug or if after searching you do not find the same bug, list a new one. The forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/) would be a better place for discussing and trying to solve problems of a more generic nature.
