JRC, where did you find the 2.0 version? All I can get is the 2.1.0.81-1_i386.deb version from skype.com, and this one insists on using pulseaudio, which does work for sound output but not for the microphone.
I also tried unistalling pulseaudio. Then skype gives me multiple sound options to choose, but none of them work. The gnome-sound-recorder also does not record anything when pulseaudio is installed, and does not even start when pulseaudio is removed.
