Hi, I am using Ubuntu 9.10, and I can confirm the behavior of mutt with imaps and smtps, *not* on gmail servers.
If i read the compile option in mutt -v correctly, mutt has been compiled with GNUTLS, since I have: +USE_SSL_GNUTLS and -USE_SSL_OPENSSL.
