I had to do the upgrade the hard way, using aptitude, dkpg, holding, deleting and reinstalling. I've been through this at every major upgrade.
The first problem seemed to be related to lirc and one another program. Later, when I had passed that hurdle, there was something with openoffice.org-core. That took many rounds in and out of aptitude and dpkdg. The files attached were the ones I was able to attach. One file was empty and apt-term wouldn't allow attachment.
