This was confirmed by two more persons (Ivanka, Jos) during the sprint.
After the upgrade, "dkms status" said that the module was installed for
the karmic kernel (2.6.31-17), i. e. for the kernel that was running at
the time when the upgrade was done. Apparently it only rebuilt the
module for the current kernel, but not for the "latest" one as well.

Does DKMS usually attempt to install for a newly appeared kernel as
well?
