Correction - the starting problems are bug #508456. Scott James Remnant feels that this is a screen driver problem, rather than an upstart problem, but I'm not sure about that.
Yes, the wifi card messages are a separate issue. There is still an issue with the screen going into a strange mode with many colors in what looks like out-of-sync text graphics while shutting down.
