Sometimes links cannot be continued, because they expire. Youtube/Google don't have constant direct links to files, but create temporary links to them. After a while the links expire and that's why pause/continue doesn't work. :) I don't know what pausing actually stops the downloading, but try to limit the speed to 5Kb/s and continue to download the file.
