Well, I also have sec=krb5i shares, and it seems to work correctly.

The start condition for /etc/init/gssd.conf is:

start on (started portmap
          or mount TYPE=nfs4 OPTIONS=sec=*krb5*)

So even if the 'mount' signal isn't being emitted properly, starting
portmap should bring gssd up.

Is portmap running after boot?

Can you show the full fstab entries?
