Very strange, now I have reinstalled updates from xorg-edgers again and indeed found slight improvement of the performance! Maybe thanks to the newer version of mesa. Synaptic says mesa is 7.8.0 now (was 1.6.0), Intel driver is 2.10.0 (was 2.9.0), xserver-xorg-core is 1.6.5 (was 1.6.4). However, the performance improvement is small - Tux racer now says 18-22 FPS rather than 15-20. But at least Euphoria screensaver does not flicker now, as it was constantly doing since Jaunty. Hope this trend will remain in future versions.
