I updated Lucid to the latest git code of the -ati driver last week which should have all those commits. I assume those of you still seeing the issue are seeing it on karmic rather than lucid. I've opened a karmic task in case there is interest in backporting the fix (it doesn't look likely that I'll have time to do the backport myself, but can review/sponsor if someone else wants to do the backporting work.)
