Happens to me. uname -r : 2.6.31-17-generic Sounds like it is spinning up and then spinning down every 20 seconds. It then immediately starts spinning back up again for me. It appears to spin down 20 seconds after the last access if a CD is inserted
Doesn't occur if the CD-drive is in an ejected state. Doesn't occur if the CD-drive is empty.
