Ubuntu better. I noticed when going through your logs that "LINE" is
muted (see below).

Simple mixer control 'Line',0

  Limits: Playback 0 - 65
  Mono:
  Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [-35.00dB] [off]
  Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [-35.00dB] [off]

Please run "alsamixer" (without the quotes) from a terminal window &
unmute this channel. Also ensure that you increase the volume level of
this channel.
