Public bug reported: I recently upgraded from 8.10, through 9.04 and then to 9.10. Now I have no sound at all globally.
Sound worked fine in 8.10 with the exception that under some circumstances if I left applications open too long (I think FireFox) it would no longer work. But that was rare. When I change the volume and have my external amp turned up high I can hear the clicks at it increases the volume. Recording audio seems to work! I've run through the Debugging Sound pages including the one specific to 9.10 with no luck. Please see details of this below. I have also attached the results of alsa-info.sh Thanks in advanced for your assistance ~Scott DebuggingSoundProblems/KarmicCaveats testing: sc...@hpserver:~$ uname -r 2.6.31-17-generic sc...@hpserver:~$ dmesg | grep -i hda [ 24.522613] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 21 (level, low) -> IRQ 21 [ 24.522659] HDA Intel 0000:00:1b.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 24.595552] input: HDA Digital PCBeep as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/input/input5 sc...@hpserver:~$ sudo fuser -v /dev/dsp* /dev/snd/* /dev/seq* sc...@hpserver:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards | grep ICE1712 sc...@hpserver:~$ dmesg | grep firmware [ 24.121285] intel_rng: don't want to disable this in firmware setup, and if sc...@hpserver:~$ ./alsa-info.sh ProblemType: Bug AplayDevices: **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC260 Analog [ALC260 Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 Architecture: i386 ArecordDevices: **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC260 Analog [ALC260 Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: scott 6946 F.... pulseaudio CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Card0.Amixer.info: Card hw:0 'Intel'/'HDA Intel at 0xe04c0000 irq 21' Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC260' Components : 'HDA:10ec0260,103c3012,00100400' Controls : 19 Simple ctrls : 12 CheckboxSubmission: 486d62674d2150e862210eb64bbada37 CheckboxSystem: 6ce041aeed0a2c17b3343b66d157175d Date: Mon Feb 1 19:25:44 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=6df03767-44d4-4a68-90aa-d162bafc5e47 IwConfig: lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions.
