Hello everybody, I posted some time ago a font redering problem with evince/poppler, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/poppler/+bug/419715. It turns out that all the examples in the present post are displayed properly for me, yet the pdf in the bug report mentioned is still hardly readable. It happens very frequently to me, and I need to switch to xpdf, which works fine. For instance, I took a random article today just to check, and the first I tried did not work properly, see http://projecteuclid.org/DPubS/Repository/1.0/Disseminate?view=body&id=pdf_1&handle=euclid.cmp/1158328654.
