I also have this error in Karmic. I have some .odt files with sections and subsections made on Openoffice 3.0 official Sun's release. In windows or linux with official Sun's packages 3.1.1 all works fine, but with ubuntu packages some files fail when i try to open it, showing the same error. No file is shown to recover.
