Usually the only time we backport a fix to an earlier kernel is if it
meets the justification for SRU. For cases like this one, we push the updates
to the current version of the kernel only.
Not knowing more about the patch than I do, I have no way to tell you if
it will be trivial to apply as there could be dependencies required that
are only available in the newer kernel.
