Please add the output of 'lspci -vv' and 'lspci -vvn' to your bug report as attachments so we will know what type of graphics card you have. To use the open source nv graphics driver you can just replace the word "nvidia" with "nv" in your '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' file. While not exactly what you are looking for this wiki page has some information about converting to the binary "nvidia" so you would want to do the opposite thing.
