For what it's worth: I installed rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0014.0115.2010.tar.gz on a Lenovo W500 with a RealTek8192se (as reported by Win7), running Fedora 12 (sorry not Ubuntu). It worked flawlessly with no modification, and integrates fine with (Gnome?) Network Manager.
