Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase
After right clicking on a mp4 video file that is between 1.0 and 2.0 GB in size and then clicking on properties Dolphin and Konqueror will hang and then quickly consume all available memory. This does happen on files of several hundred MB and does not happen on files larger than 2.0 GB not does it seem to happen on other video file formats. It does not matter if the file is local on a cifs share. If it is on a cifs share when this happens it also uses all available network bandwidth. I have KDE 3 on on the cifs server and can view the properties on these files there with no problems.
