Similar crash. System dropped to a terminal for a few seconds, then pulled up GDM login.
This is on a fresh install of 9.10 where I just added a 3ware RAID card & enabled compiz again. Prior to those changes, the system has been stable for 2+ months. ubuntu 9.10, i386 compiz 0.8.4 virtualbox 3.1.2 nvidia video same consolekit info as the OP I was actively typing in Flock but also running chrome, virtualbox, exaile, jungledisk, a small number of utilities, and had the RAID card doing a migration in the background.
