I've seen this a couple of times in Lucid Lynx 10.04 alpha 2, running
from the live CD. In fact it's occurring right now as I type this. The
user status icon next to the power-switch icon also has an empty drop
down menu when clicked. Most of the time (most boots) the menus are
populated as expected, but occasionally they are not.
