I had some problems with the "splash" option #491045. So I removed "splash" from GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT.
After that I noticed that an regular update removed "quiet splash" from GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. I just could not find the specific update.
