Hi Luca, This article from LWN was the best coverage I could find of what's changed. I guess looking at it it doesn't jump out as a major difference. I think the documentation is much improved, and the confusing "update index" command has mostly been replaced by simpler things. If anyone told me they were interested in git, I would strongly recommend that they compile a new version, rather than using a 1.4 version.
