Actually, I guess that implies you previously had plymouth installed,
and then removed it, in which case you'd be looking at the old version
of the plymouth.conf file from plymouth 0.8.0~-2 or earlier?

As of version 1.183, ubuntu-standard Recommends: plymouth.  Do you have
this version of ubuntu-standard (and plymouth itself) installed?
