I commented about the problems downloading the changelogs because that was the only other unusual thing that was going on with my computer, and so I figured it was worth including in the bug report. I did suspect it was a server issue, so I had opened up update manager several times over a period of several hours, seeing if the changelogs were available. but they never were (and still aren't).
but at the time of the crash, my computer was idle. the update manager window was not open and hadn't been for awhile, I just had the notifier sitting in my task bar. I didn't have any other apps open.
