Also, doesn't seem like this is a grub issue. might be udev or hal or
whatever else is loading the modules.

the thing is, it should not try to read a dvd/cd or if if it does,
display any errors while booting. idealy no cd/dvd should be read at
boot, until inside Gnome/KDE or otherwise indicated. after about a
minute boot continues and is fine. this is after the grub load, so
cd/dvd bios setting is not a problem here.
